Let's go see the Snow!
We took one of our new-to-colorado friends snowshoeing this weekend. There are some great trails near the Moffat Tunnel just west of Rollinsville.
My tips to an enjoyable snowshoeing adventure?
Bring Clothing Options
Always check the weather before you head out, but don't be surprised if it's different once you get to the trail head. Maybe it's colder. Or windy. Or snowing. Maybe you thought the long-johns were over kill, but it's better to make that decision at the trail head.
Bring Post-Snowshoeing Clothes and Snacks
Most of us have a bit of a drive to and from the trailhead. Bring extra clothes to change into for the drive home, along with some snacks - snowshoeing is hard work.
Know the Area
This method isn't for everyone and I wouldn't turn down a trip to a new local - but I prefer to know the lay of the land. I like to know when I'm snowshoeing over a river, or over an edge that doesn't exist during the dry months.
